The NBA’s “Worst Ever Player” Faced Off Against Three Amateurs in a First-Time Challenge
A former NBA player, once joked about as one of the league’s “worst ever,” has now taken on three amateurs in a unique challenge. The NBA has given us some legendary stars like Michael Jordan, LeBron James, and Kobe Bryant, who are known for their amazing achievements and multiple championships.
But not every player was a superstar. Brian Scalabrine, for example, was often seen as a benchwarmer and averaged just 3.1 points per game. Some even called him the “worst player in the league.” Despite this, Scalabrine played for 11 years and was part of the Boston Celtics team that won the championship in 2008. In 2013, tired of the criticism, he famously said, “I’m closer to LeBron than you are to me.”
To test this, The Toucher and Rich Show invited three volunteers to challenge Scalabrine in a game called the “Scallenge,” where the first to score 11 points wins. Scalabrine easily won the first game 11-3, then crushed his second opponent 11-0, and won the third 11-3. He even played all three at once and still won 11-1.
Despite these wins, some fans still think they could beat him one-on-one. Four years ago, a high school player challenged Scalabrine, who was confident enough to bet his sneaker on the game. The teenager missed his first shot badly, and Scalabrine went on to win 11-0.
Though not a star, Scalabrine’s long NBA career is impressive. In an interview with the New York Times, he said, “People don’t understand how a little bit nuts you have to be to sustain an NBA career. Especially when you’re not that talented. You have to be ready, fight every day, and if you’re not, you lose your livelihood.”
