Chelsea has found a new player to replace Marc Cucurella, and it’s a former Man United star – according to reports.
Chelsea are looking to sign a former Manchester United player to replace Marc Cucurella. Since Xabi Alonso became Chelsea’s new manager, the club has been active in the transfer market, working to build a strong new team.
So far, Chelsea’s biggest signing this summer is England star Morgan Rogers, who joined for a record-breaking £117 million and signed a seven-year contract. In the next few days, Chelsea are also expected to sign French player Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace for around £51 million.
Chelsea hasn’t just been bringing players in—they’ve also seen some leave. Andrey Santos, Tyrique George, Alejandro Garnacho, and Marc Cucurella have all left the club. Out of these, Cucurella’s exit is the biggest, as he moved to Real Madrid for around £47.5 million plus extra fees.
Cucurella was important to Chelsea’s success recently, so losing him is a big deal. However, it looks like Alonso might have already found his perfect replacement. According to the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Chelsea are interested in Alvaro Carreras, who could come from Real Madrid in a swap deal for Cucurella.
Carreras, who used to be a Manchester United reserve, has an uncertain future at Real Madrid despite joining just last year for £43 million from Benfica. Real Madrid already have a full squad and need to let some players go or risk leaving others out of their official list next season.
Since Carreras worked well with Alonso when the Chelsea boss was managing Real Madrid, this move would make a lot of sense for both sides. The 23-year-old was a regular starter under Alonso but lost his place after Alonso left and Alvaro Arbeloa took over.
Now that Cucurella is at Real Madrid, Carreras probably won’t be able to take back a starting spot there and seems open to moving to Chelsea.
In other news, Carreras leaving would also help Real Madrid financially because they have just signed the highly wanted Ivorian winger Yan Diomande. Diomande attracted interest from Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain but chose to join Madrid.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says Real Madrid agreed a deal with RB Leipzig to sign the 19-year-old for over €100 million (£85 million). Diomande is expected to arrive in Madrid this week for medical tests before signing a five-year contract until June 2031.
