Cristiano Ronaldo hopes to use his new status to attract a Premier League captain to join Al-Nassr.
Cristiano Ronaldo is eager to help rebuild the Al-Nassr team so they can keep their Saudi Pro League title and win the AFC Champions League Elite for the first time. It seems he wants to bring a Premier League captain to the club to make sure this happens.
The Portuguese star has reportedly asked the club’s sporting director to have full control over signing new players, so they can compete even better next season. According to 365scores, Ronaldo wants the team to keep improving after winning their 11th Saudi Pro League last season.
Ronaldo is said to have insisted that no one should interfere with the work of the sporting director, Simao, and the executive director, Semedo, during the transfer window this summer.
The same report suggests Ronaldo is hoping to bring his fellow Portuguese and Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes, to Saudi Arabia. Ronaldo is leading the effort to sign the midfielder.
Al-Nassr is interested in Fernandes because his contract talks with Manchester United seem to be stuck, so they hope he might be tempted to move to Saudi Arabia.
The two Portuguese stars didn’t have the best World Cup, as Portugal was knocked out by Spain in the round of 16, and Spain went on to win the final against Argentina. However, both Ronaldo and Fernandes have been very important for their country, helping them win the 2019 and 2023 Nations League titles.
Fernandes would be a fantastic pick-up for Al-Nassr next season. He had a great year at Manchester United, scoring nine goals and providing 21 assists in the Premier League.
Even though his contract talks are stalled, it would likely take a big offer from Al-Nassr to convince Manchester United to let go of their captain and five-time Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year.
