Liverpool make a tough choice on which player to sell to fund Bradley Barcola transfer
Liverpool are reportedly ready to let one of their key players go to bring in Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola.
Even though Arsenal are also interested, Liverpool seem to be leading the race to sign the PSG and France star this summer. However, PSG want around £145 million before agreeing to sell, so Liverpool might have to break their transfer record. The club has already talked with PSG about Barcola as they look for someone to replace Mohamed Salah on the wing.
Barcola is open to joining Liverpool and has made the Reds his top choice while they work out the details on price and salary. The 23-year-old scored three goals in eight World Cup games and moved to PSG from Lyon in 2023. Since then, he’s scored 39 goals and made 37 assists in 152 games, helping PSG win three Ligue 1 titles, two Coupe de France trophies, and back-to-back Champions League wins in 2025 and 2026.
However, Barcola hasn’t always been a starter, as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Désiré Doué often get picked on the wings. If Barcola does join, Liverpool might have to sell a current player. Although Federico Chiesa has been linked with a move away, he seems keen to stay and start fresh under new manager Andoni Iraola.
Chiesa said after scoring in Liverpool’s 4-2 friendly win over Sunderland: “It’s always a fresh start at the beginning of the year. Maybe I’ve had too many fresh starts, but I just want to do my best for the new manager. Last season, I wanted a bigger role, but it was up to the coach who played. This year feels like a new chapter, so I’m focused on that.”
Meanwhile, Cody Gakpo might be the one to leave. According to reports, even though Gakpo extended his contract until 2030 last summer, he could be on the move. Spurs and other clubs are interested in the Dutch winger, who scored seven goals and made five assists last season. Liverpool value him at around £60-70 million, but it’s not clear if he wants to leave with four years left on his deal.
