New Bruno Guimaraes asking price revealed as Newcastle relax their position with Arsenal
Arsenal are still keen on signing Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, and his new asking price has come out.
This summer, the Premier League has seen a lot of big-money moves for midfielders. For example, Elliot Anderson’s £116 million transfer from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City set a high bar. Since then, even larger deals have happened. Tottenham signed Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali for a total of £185 million from West Ham and Newcastle. Chelsea also broke the British transfer record for the second time this summer by paying £117 million for Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa.
With all this money being spent on midfielders, clubs selling players are using these big fees as a benchmark. Newcastle is no different. They reportedly put a £100 million price tag on Bruno Guimaraes when Arsenal showed interest. The Magpies don’t want to let go of the 28-year-old, especially after selling Tonali to Spurs for around £92.5 million. But since Guimaraes has told Newcastle he wants to join Arsenal, it looks like a move will happen.
Ben Jacobs shared on Tuesday that Arsenal are speeding up their efforts to sign him. Their initial £65 million offer was rejected, with Newcastle wanting to keep their captain. However, Jacobs says Arsenal are likely to make a new bid over £70 million, now knowing the price they need to meet.
Last week, Newcastle wanted £100 million from Arsenal for Guimaraes, but they seem to have lowered that amount. Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie said on Wednesday that Newcastle might sell the midfielder for over £80 million, possibly less than what they got for Tonali. Downie explained that because Guimaraes is nearly 29 and a few years older than Tonali, his value is a bit lower. Newcastle really want to keep him and have said he’s not for sale, but it’s hard to hold on once a player wants to leave.
Since joining Newcastle from Lyon for £40 million in January 2022, Guimaraes has become one of the Premier League’s best midfielders. Even in a tough season under Eddie Howe, he made a big impact with 15 goal contributions in 29 games. He’s a complete midfielder—great at both winning the ball and creating chances—and would be a huge boost for Mikel Arteta’s team.
The Brazil international has 48 caps and could build a strong partnership with Declan Rice at Arsenal, where he’d be in his prime and still fighting for trophies. Guimaraes won the Carabao Cup with Newcastle in 2025, but moving to Arsenal could give him a better chance at winning the Premier League.
