Arsenal is ready to make a surprising swap deal to sign Julian Alvarez!
Arsenal might be ready to say goodbye to a £64 million signing in order to bring Julian Alvarez to the club this summer.
Mikel Arteta’s team will start the 2026/27 Premier League season as champions, after narrowly beating Manchester City last year. The coach and players are eager to build on last season’s success, especially since Arsenal made it to the finals of the Champions League and Carabao Cup, though they lost to Paris Saint-Germain and City.
This summer, Arsenal signed Greek forward Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge for £34 million. Piero Hincapie, who was on loan, has joined permanently after a strong season. Former Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier has also joined to back up David Raya. On the other hand, Jakub Kiwior and Leandro Trossard have left, moving to Porto and Besiktas.
Reports say Arsenal might be willing to let go of Viktor Gyokeres, even though they signed him for £64 million from Sporting CP just last summer. Gyokeres scored 21 goals in 55 games last season but faced criticism for his rough playing style. It’s possible he could be included in a swap deal to bring Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid to Arsenal, along with some money.
Alvarez, who used to play for Manchester City, has attracted interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona. However, Atletico doesn’t want to sell him to another Spanish club, which could make a deal with Arsenal more likely.
During the World Cup, Alvarez said, “I talked with people at the club, and the best thing for everyone is a transfer. I want to follow my dream. It’s not the right time to discuss this now, but I can’t hide how I feel. I try to be honest.”
Despite Alvarez’s wish to leave, Atletico’s CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin is firm that the player isn’t for sale. “Our position is clear. We told the player, his agents, and Barcelona’s president that we want to keep him. Atletico is the perfect place for Julian, and he’s perfect for Atletico,” he said. “We didn’t accept €100 million and won’t accept €150 or €200 million.”
Alvarez is under contract with Atletico until 2030.
