Tyson Fury’s cousin shares a big prediction before his first pro boxing match
Tyson Fury is getting closer to the end of his boxing career at 37 years old. He’s even announced his retirement five times! But when he finally decides to stop boxing for good, his cousin thinks he could step up and fill his shoes.
The Gypsy King is set to fight Mariusz Wach in Thailand on July 25. Unfortunately, fans in the UK won’t be able to watch it live, as Fury is focusing on his big showdown later this year with fellow Brit Anthony Joshua.
Fury knows that beating Joshua could lead to a third fight against Oleksandr Usyk. That would be his chance to try and win back the WBC heavyweight title he lost to Usyk the first time they fought.
If Fury faces Usyk again, like in their second match, they might be fighting for several top titles – the WBA (Super), WBC, WBO, IBO, and The Ring belts – which could make Fury one of the greatest in boxing history.
However, Fury’s cousin, 20-year-old James Dean Fury, is confident he’ll become the best British boxer ever, even surpassing Tyson’s success.
In an interview with Seconds Out, James said, “I’m proud of what my family has done, but now it’s my turn. This is the James Dean Fury show. I don’t want to live in anyone’s shadow, not even my family’s. I will make my own way and build my own legacy.
“I will be the best to come out of Great Britain. Just watch, that’s what’s going to happen.”
His goal is clear: “My main job is to win those world titles – every single one. I want them all around my waist, my shoulders, everywhere. I want to be covered in them, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do.”
James Dean Fury made these bold statements before his pro debut. He’ll be fighting on the undercard of Callum Simpson and Troy Williamson’s rematch on Saturday, August 8, at the First Direct Arena in Leeds.
