Alejandro Garnacho looks like he might be leaving Chelsea soon, and surprising Premier League clubs are already in talks to sign him.
Garnacho joined the Blues last summer in a big £40 million move from Manchester United after falling out of favor with Ruben Amorim. But the 22-year-old has had a tough time at Stamford Bridge, scoring just eight goals in 43 games during his first season.
Chelsea’s new manager, Xabi Alonso, has made it clear that Garnacho isn’t part of his long-term plans. The speedy winger even skipped training once the World Cup players returned to Cobham, and since then, several clubs have shown interest in him.
Roma made an offer recently, suggesting a loan deal with an obligation to buy for €35 million if certain conditions are met. Chelsea would rather sell the Argentina international, valuing him at around £43 million, and clubs from Saudi Arabia and the Premier League are circling.
According to The Athletic, Aston Villa have started talks about signing Garnacho as they look to replace Morgan Rogers. Villa sold Rogers to Chelsea for a British record £117 million and now need a good replacement.
Garnacho is one option along with West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville and PSG’s young talent Ibrahim Mbaye. But pursuing Garnacho might end talks for the other two. If Villa decide not to go for Garnacho, they could instead go after his Chelsea teammate Nicolas Jackson. Villa’s manager, Unai Emery, has long admired Jackson, having coached him before at Villarreal, and could try to bring the 24-year-old to the Midlands.
Emery praised Jackson’s attitude back in December 2024, saying, “He was always eager to learn, focused on football, and professional both on and off the pitch.”
This is a crucial moment for Garnacho’s career. Even though he’s only 22, he really needs a positive move now or risks going downhill. Working with a manager like Emery could be just what he needs to get his confidence back and show the talent that first made him shine at Manchester United.
If Villa do go after Garnacho, he might end up playing alongside his Argentina teammate Emi Martinez, who has spoken highly of him. Martinez said in June 2023, “He’s a humble guy who works hard and is eager to play. He’s a little treasure, and I hope he can give us as much as Angel Di Maria did.”
Ironically, Martinez called Garnacho “humble” back then, but since then, Garnacho’s behavior has caused some problems. For example, in early 2025, he stormed off instead of going to the bench after being substituted in a match against Ipswich Town, and last year he aired complaints about Amorim on social media.
It’s clear Garnacho has talent, but now he needs the right environment and support to turn things around.
