Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who’s currently the fourth richest person in the world, has been approached about possibly investing in Liverpool, according to reports. Bezos, 62, started Amazon back in 1994 and has built an incredible fortune worth around $256 billion. He was the richest person from 2016 to 2021 but has since been passed by Elon Musk and also Google’s Larry Page and Sergey Brin.

Sky News’ City editor Mark Kleinman says Bezos has been contacted by a group of investors interested in putting money into Liverpool. This group is led by Amit Bhatia, who spent nearly two decades as a director and co-owner of the Championship club Queens Park Rangers. Bhatia is also the son of steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, who was once one of the richest Indians in the world.

Bhatia first joined Queens Park Rangers as vice-chairman and worked closely with manager Neil Warnock when the team earned promotion to the Premier League in 2011. Kleinman reports that Bezos has had talks with Bhatia’s group but isn’t sure yet if he will move forward with an investment in Liverpool.

At 62, Bezos doesn’t own any sports teams, and although there were reports he was interested in buying the NBA’s Boston Celtics in 2024, those rumors were quickly denied.

A spokesperson for Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool’s current majority owners, confirmed the interest from Bhatia’s group, saying: “An investment consortium led and managed by Amit Bhatia has expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club.”

Liverpool’s main owner, John W. Henry, said in 2023 that the club was open to outside investment. Later that year, a deal was made with sports investment firm Dynasty Equity to invest between $100 million and $200 million, which gave them about 1.9 to 3.8 percent ownership. RedBird Capital Partners is also believed to own around 11 percent of the club.

Bhatia and his team are reportedly thinking about a deal to buy 30 percent of Liverpool. That would still leave Fenway Sports Group as the main owners. It’s not clear if Bhatia would want to take a bigger share if he starts with a smaller stake.

As of May 2026, Forbes valued Liverpool at £4.6 billion. The club is the fourth most valuable football club worldwide, following Manchester United, Barcelona, and Real Madrid.
