Man Utd player openly says he wants to leave after Wrexham friendly in a public transfer request
Manchester United goalkeeper Radek Vitek has shared that he plans to leave Old Trafford this summer to get more regular first-team action.
The 22-year-old, who joined United in 2020 but is yet to make his first-team debut, spent last season on loan at Championship side Bristol City. It was a big year for him there—he won Bristol City’s Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year, and Players’ Player of the Year awards.
No surprise, then, that several clubs are interested in signing Vitek, including the three newly-promoted Premier League teams: Coventry City, Ipswich Town, and Hull City.
Vitek is back at United this summer and played in their recent pre-season game against Wrexham in Finland. But it seems he won’t be staying long. After the 1-0 loss, he spoke about his future.
“I feel great and ready to go somewhere to hopefully be number one. We’ll see what happens,” he said. “I’m still here for now, but I hope there will be interest. You’ll know when it gets more certain.”
When asked if he prefers a permanent move or another loan, Vitek said, “I’m open to both. It depends on what the club wants and what options come up. We’ll see. There’s been some interest already, and I hope the best option will come soon.”
Last season at Bristol City, Vitek made 41 appearances and kept 12 clean sheets. He’s clear that playing regularly is his main goal next season, especially since Senne Lammens is expected to keep his spot as United’s number one.
“My mind hasn’t changed—I want to play every week. That’s the goal, and I hope to find out soon where that will be,” he said. “I’ve grown a lot over the past two and a half years through my loans, both as a person and on the pitch.”
Vitek also praised goalkeeper coach Craig Mawson and veteran keeper Tom Heaton, who recently signed a new one-year deal with United.
“I’ve been working with Craig for nearly six years and with Tom for quite a while too. They’ve been really important. This pre-season has helped a lot as well, working with them to get ready,” he added.
