Chelsea plans their next step to sign another World Cup player after making a big £117m deal.

Chelsea are gearing up to sign another Premier League star after breaking their transfer record to bring in Morgan Rogers for a whopping £117 million. After missing out on European football last season, the Blues are going all out this summer with a big rebuild led by new manager Xabi Alonso.

They showed their ambition early by securing a deal for England and Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers. Rogers was close to joining Arsenal, the reigning Premier League champs, but Chelsea swooped in and had their offer accepted. A former Manchester City academy player, Rogers is set to be Chelsea’s third major signing this summer, following Geovany Quenda and Marco Palestra.

But Chelsea isn’t stopping there. Reports say they’ve started talks for another Premier League player who played at the World Cup. Journalist Ben Jacobs says Chelsea are after Maxence Lacroix, a centre-back from Crystal Palace. Lacroix joined Palace from Wolfsburg in 2024 and helped the team win both the FA Cup and the Conference League in an amazing season.

Having made nearly 100 appearances for Palace, Lacroix is ready for a new challenge after playing in his first World Cup with France. Palace reportedly want at least £55 million for him, following the example of a similar recent transfer involving Spurs. Like with Rogers, Arsenal are also interested in Lacroix.

At the World Cup, Lacroix was initially a backup but ended up playing three games for France, helping them finish fourth. Before Alonso took over at Chelsea, the club had also signed Denner, Dastan Satpaev, and Emmanuel Emegha.

Alonso is also keen on bringing in Bayer Leverkusen’s young star Kerim Alajbegovic, who impressed at the World Cup playing for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Alajbegovic made headlines with an amazing long-range goal and only recently returned to Leverkusen after a buy-back from Red Bull Salzburg. Alonso is a big fan and could push for his signing.

As for players leaving, Chelsea is open to offers for five players, including Alejandro Garnacho, Benoit Badiashile, Axel Diasi, and Liam Delap. On the other hand, key players like Reece James, Cole Palmer, Levi Colwill, Moises Caicedo, Joao Pedro, Estevao, and Josh Acheampong are all expected to stay and be important for the club’s future.
