Sky Sports had to say sorry after Keegan Bradley let out an F-bomb when he missed a bogey putt during the second round of The Open.
Keegan, who was Team USA’s Ryder Cup captain last year, started Friday one under par, after a strong 69 on day one. But day two didn’t go so well for him.
He began with a double-bogey on the first hole, putting him in a tough spot as he aimed for his best finish at The Open. The 40-year-old has never finished better than tied for 15th, and on Friday morning, his frustration showed.
When he missed the bogey putt on the first hole, Bradley was heard swearing on TV just after 8:15 am. Sky Sports commentator Tim Barter said, “Keegan Bradley, Ryder Cup captain for the Americans last time, is having his problems. Sorry if you heard some bad language. That’s not the start he wanted, stating the obvious.”
Nick Dougherty jumped in, saying, “It shows how much the game is mental. He played great last year, but the Ryder Cup’s aftermath seems to be affecting him.”
Barter added, “The Ryder Cup has been tough on him throughout his career. He loves it more than anyone in America, but he’s had a lot of disappointment as both a player and a captain.”
Besides wanting his best-ever Open finish, Bradley is also trying to make the FedEx Cup playoffs for the first time. He’s currently 75th in the rankings, while only the top 70 qualify for the St. Jude Championship next month.
After his first round on Thursday, he said about his form: “Not that great, but it’s been a tough year. After last year and the Ryder Cup, I’m just trying to get back to normal. I’m starting to feel better.”
He added, “I’m in a unique spot in my career, trying to make the FedEx Cup playoffs for the first time, so in a way, it’s kind of fun.”
He also said, “It’s really tough after these Ryder Cups. I’m in a rare place, trying to be a top player and win tournaments while figuring things out. But we’re getting there.”
