Newcastle United may lose another important player as Man United makes the most of Eddie Howe’s surprise move.
Newcastle United might face more tough times this summer as another important player could leave the club, just like manager Eddie Howe did.
Howe’s surprise exit was announced on Thursday morning after a tough 4-1 friendly loss to Bristol City. He took over in November 2021, when Newcastle was near the bottom of the Premier League, right after a big takeover led by PIF.
Since then, Howe brought a lot of success to the team, ending a 70-year wait for a trophy by winning the Carabao Cup in 2025 and qualifying for the Champions League twice.
Reporter Ben Jacobs says Howe told the club he wanted to leave a few weeks ago but stayed on until they found a replacement. Newcastle’s top choice to take over seems to be Matthias Jaissle from Al Ahli, who also works for a club owned by PIF.
Jaissle is new to the Premier League world, but many believe Howe’s exit was partly due to several star players leaving recently. Newcastle sold Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for £70 million and Sandro Tonali went to Tottenham for £92.5 million. Captain Bruno Guimaraes is also keen on joining Arsenal, and more players might leave as the team changes.
This summer, Newcastle signed four young players aged 20 or under: Bazoumana Traore, Aladji Bamba, Sean Steur, and Ewen Jaouen. While the club seems to be planning for the future, they might lose a rising star who could be key to that future.
The Sun reports that Manchester United are interested in signing Newcastle’s left-back Lewis Hall, who is just 21. United see him as a possible long-term replacement for Luke Shaw.
Hall could stay at Newcastle depending on who the new manager is, but the deal might be tricky since Newcastle hasn’t sold a player to Manchester United since Andy Cole’s big move back in 1995. Still, United really like Hall, especially after his strong performances last season.
He played 46 games in all competitions, including 10 in the Champions League, and made a name for himself as one of Europe’s most promising left-backs. Though he missed out on a spot in England’s squad, Hall impressed many with his skills, energy, and strength.
He’d be a big upgrade for United, who are also ready to sell young left-back Harry Amass for just £6 million.
