Frank Lampard makes a surprise move by signing the son of his old England teammate for Coventry City!
Coventry City, the new kids in the Premier League, have just signed a promising young goalkeeper whose dad used to play for England alongside Frank Lampard.
So far, the Sky Blues have brought in three new players as they get ready for their first Premier League season in 25 years.
They’ve signed French winger Loum Tchaouna, who scored three goals in 32 games for Burnley last season. He’s joined on a five-year deal for about £20 million.
They also grabbed Swiss centre-back Aurele Amenda from Eintracht Frankfurt for over £17 million. Plus, defensive midfielder Frank Onyeka, who was Brentford’s first Premier League signing but spent last season on loan at Coventry, has now joined permanently.
Last month, it was reported that goalkeeper Karl Rushworth, who was on loan at Coventry last season, is set to join for around £22.5 million. It’s clear Coventry want to strengthen their goalkeeping options.
On Sunday, they confirmed the signing of 18-year-old Jack Ruddy, who is the son of former England keeper John Ruddy, on a free transfer after leaving Norwich’s under-18 team.
Jack’s mum, Laura, shared the great news on social media with a photo of them at the CBS Arena. She said, “So proud of Jack for signing with Coventry City. It hasn’t always been easy these last five years, but you never gave up or stopped believing. Seeing you happy and enjoying football again means everything.”
John Ruddy, who left Newcastle United in June and is currently without a club, played once for England, sharing the pitch with Coventry’s head coach Frank Lampard. That game was in August 2012, when England beat Italy 2-1.
In other news, reports from May say Frank Lampard is thinking about bringing in Georginio Wijnaldum, the former Liverpool and Newcastle midfielder. The 35-year-old, now a free agent, wants to return to the Premier League.
Coventry see him as a strong, experienced player who can lead the midfield and motivate the team when things get tough. Despite his age, Wijnaldum had a great 2025-26 season, scoring 17 goals and assisting 6 times for Al-Ettifaq.
