Big transfer setback for Man Utd as Bruno Guimaraes moving to Arsenal sets off a chain reaction
If Bruno Guimarães moves to Arsenal, it could really shake up Manchester United’s summer plans.
The Newcastle captain has apparently told the club he wants to leave this summer, and the Brazilian midfielder has been strongly linked with a move to Premier League winners Arsenal.
Even with these transfer rumors, Guimarães joined his teammates in La Manga, Spain, for pre-season training. Newcastle still hope he will stay, especially after losing key players Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, who recently moved to Spurs and Barcelona.
Newcastle also saw their head coach Eddie Howe leave last week, with Germany’s Matthias Jaissle expected to take over.
On August 3rd, Arsenal had a bid of around £70-80 million for Guimarães rejected by Newcastle, but they are likely to make another offer soon.
Although this transfer mainly involves Arsenal and Newcastle, Manchester United are watching closely since it could affect their chase for English left-back Lewis Hall.
Reports say Newcastle want £60 million for Hall. United have made him a top target after already signing Andrey Santos, Karl Darlow, Youri Tielemans, and Tynan Thompson this summer.
Newcastle might want to keep Hall and could be in a better financial spot if Guimarães moves to Arsenal, which might make selling Hall harder or more expensive for United.
Over the weekend, football expert Fabrizio Romano shared an update on United’s interest in Hall.
He said on his YouTube channel, “Man Utd really like Lewis Hall and see him as a perfect addition to their squad. He’s definitely on their list and approved by the club.
“But Newcastle won’t make it easy. They don’t want to sell Hall. They’ve already earned good money this summer from selling Tonali, Gordon, and if Guimarães goes to Arsenal, that will add to their funds.
“The deal for Guimarães is moving forward and he wants to join Arsenal, but Newcastle want to keep Hall. That’s the message.
“So yes, Man Utd see Hall as a top target and they’re in talks to understand the situation. But we need to wait and see Newcastle’s stance before saying Man Utd will try everything to get him.”
Hall is under contract with Newcastle until 2029.
Also, Joelinton is reportedly looking to move, with a preference for a transfer to Saudi Arabia.
This summer, Newcastle have focused on bringing young talent in, signing 20-year-olds Bouzoumana Touré, Aladji Bamba, and Ewen Jaouen from Hoffenheim, AS Monaco, and Stade de Reims.
They’ve also added 18-year-old midfielder Sean Steur from Ajax and 24-year-old goalkeeper Lukáš Horníček from Braga.
Newcastle will start their Premier League season at home against Liverpool on August 23rd.
