Big European club looking to swoop in on Rodri’s move to Real Madrid

Real Madrid seems pretty sure they’ll sign Rodri this summer, with many thinking the Spain captain is ready to return to his hometown.
Rodri, who won the 2024 Ballon d’Or, has one year left on his Manchester City contract. This has caught the attention of big clubs across Europe like PSG, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid.
It’s easy to see why so many teams want him after his great play at the 2026 World Cup in North America, where he helped Spain win the trophy for the second time ever.
As the summer goes on, it looks like the 30-year-old midfielder really wants to come back to La Liga and wear Real Madrid’s famous white jersey. But now, another team has joined the race for him.
According to AS Diario, Real Madrid’s rivals, Barcelona, are trying to convince the four-time Premier League winner to join them.
Barcelona needs new midfielders after Frenkie de Jong got hurt for a long time, so they’ve asked Manchester City about signing Rodri.
Even though Barcelona is the current La Liga champion and could offer Rodri an exciting challenge, it seems his heart is set on Real Madrid.
The report says Barcelona knew all along that Rodri’s top choice was Real Madrid.
Even though they need midfielders because of De Jong’s injury, Barcelona has some talented young players from their academy like Marc Bernal and Marc Casado who could fill the spot well.
Right now, Barcelona seems to be focusing more on signing Joao Cancelo and finding a new striker to replace Robert Lewandowski, who left this summer to play for MLS team Chicago Fire.
