Marcus Rashford’s return to Man Utd and the first team he might play against have been revealed!
Marcus Rashford is set to return to Manchester United after his loan with Barcelona ended, especially since the Spanish club decided not to sign him permanently.
During his time at Barcelona, Rashford had a great season, winning La Liga while scoring 14 goals and providing 14 assists. But his stay in Catalonia was short, as Barcelona chose not to pay the £26 million fee to keep him and instead signed his England teammate Anthony Gordon from Newcastle.
Now, Rashford will be back at his boyhood club, United, for pre-season training, where he’ll be welcomed by coach Michael Carrick. According to BBC’s Simon Stone, Rashford will join the team’s training camp in Ireland after taking a break following England’s World Cup semi-final run.
United have already played pre-season games in Finland, Norway, and Sweden. Next, they face European champions Paris Saint-Germain and then Leeds United at Croke Park. Rashford might not be ready for those matches, but he could feature in a friendly against AC Milan in Poland on August 15.
Milan’s current manager, Ruben Amorim, is Rashford’s former boss from United, who didn’t give Rashford many chances and criticized his commitment. After being dropped for the Manchester derby in December 2024, Rashford moved on loan to Aston Villa before a strong season with Barcelona.
Rashford, 28, wanted to stay at Barcelona, but things didn’t work out for a permanent move. His high wages make it tricky to move away from United, though several clubs are interested. Turkish side Fenerbahce has made contact, and two Premier League clubs are also showing interest. Additionally, clubs from Italy, Germany, and Saudi Arabia are keeping an eye on him.
On the other hand, TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey says Carrick doesn’t want to let Rashford go and believes he can play an important role if he stays. Despite being the highest-paid player, the staff feel Rashford can fit right back in and add strength to United’s attack.
Rashford last played for United in December 2024 during a Europa League win over Viktoria Plzen.
