What Arsenal players have heard about Vinicius Jr joining Real Madrid – decision expected soon
Arsenal’s sporting director, Andrea Berta, has reportedly talked to the first team about the exciting possibility of signing Vinicius Junior from Real Madrid. Vinicius hasn’t agreed to a new deal with Real yet, and with his current contract ending next summer, Arsenal’s interest in the Brazilian winger has become public in the last couple of weeks.
So far, manager Mikel Arteta hasn’t said much about Vinicius, just laughing off questions after Arsenal’s pre-season friendly win against Girona. Reports from Spain say that contract talks are paused because of a bonus and some disagreements over image rights with Real.
The 26-year-old has been training with Real’s squad under new manager Jose Mourinho after playing for Brazil in the World Cup. In an interview with Real Madrid TV, Vinicius sounded like he’s focused on the season ahead, saying, “It’s been great getting to know the new coach and players. Mourinho wants me to stay happy and play my best football. We’re working hard to prepare physically to avoid injuries during the season. Pre-season is tough, but we just need to rest and be ready.”
Whether he’s also preparing for a move to Arsenal is still unclear. Spanish news outlet AS says Arsenal’s players have been asking questions about a transfer that could shake up the Premier League. Sporting director Berta reportedly told the team that the club is very confident about signing what could be the most expensive player in Premier League history.
The players seem to think the deal is pretty likely, especially since many have experienced “the Arteta moment” — when the manager and club set a big target for the team. Vinicius had important talks with Real Madrid management on Wednesday after training that morning.
Spanish journalist Jose Felix Diaz says a decision from Vinicius and his team is ‘imminent,’ with Real pushing for an answer on their contract offer. There are said to be three options: stay at Real, join Arsenal, or leave for free next summer if he doesn’t renew. Vinicius now has to decide before Real’s deadline.
