Trabzonspor is looking to bring Mo Salah back together with his old Liverpool teammate in another surprising transfer move.
A former Liverpool player might be joining Mohamed Salah at Trabzonspor soon. Salah is set to move to the Turkish club on a free transfer after ending his Liverpool contract a year early, finishing at the end of the 2025/26 season.
He will sign a two-year deal in Turkey. Trabzonspor could face English teams in the Europa League next season, but first, they need to get through the play-offs. Salah is expected to earn more than Turkey’s current top-paid player, Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen, who makes €15 million a year.
According to Bloomberg, the 34-year-old will get €17 million per year (£14.5 million), which equals about £280,000 a week, plus a £4.3 million signing bonus. Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu also said Salah will get 20% of all merchandise sales.
When Salah arrived in Turkey, he was greeted like a hero. Thousands of fans lined the streets of Trabzon to see him. Salah said, “There are 25,000 people here. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen this at an airport, but it’s a great feeling and shows a lot of love.”
He added, “I’m really happy and can’t wait to train with the team. Wherever I go, I try to win something. I hope we can do well in the league and in Europe too.” At Trabzonspor, Salah will join former Premier League players John Lundstram, Paul Onuachu, and Stefan Savic.
On another note, Turkish journalist Resat Can Ozbudak reports that Trabzonspor is also interested in Al Hilal forward Darwin Nunez. Nunez used to be Salah’s teammate at Liverpool. Since moving to Saudi Arabia in 2025, Nunez has had a tough time, playing only 24 matches for his new club.
He has also been linked with Besiktas, a rival Turkish club that once talked to Salah. Salah and Nunez were close friends and had a great partnership on the field while playing 122 games together at Liverpool, creating 18 goals as a team.
When Nunez’s transfer to Saudi Arabia was announced last summer, Salah shared a heartfelt message wishing him well: “I’m lucky to have had you as a teammate and friend. You brought great energy, made us laugh, and showed heart. You’ll be missed, and I wish you all the best at your new club.” Nunez is still under contract with Al Hilal until June 2028.
