There’s big news about Vini Jr’s future at Real Madrid, especially with Arsenal showing interest.
Lately, people have been talking about Vini Jr possibly leaving Real Madrid because Arsenal is keen on signing him. The 26-year-old has one year left on his Real contract. He and the club had started talks about a new deal earlier this year, but things slowed down.
On July 25, The Athletic said Arsenal was checking out a move for Vini Jr, but any transfer would depend on whether he could agree on a new contract with Real Madrid. Then on August 5, fans got curious when Vini Jr wiped all his photos from Instagram, which some thought was a subtle message to Real Madrid.
Even though that was surprising, David Ornstein from The Athletic shared a big update. Real Madrid has now made a better contract offer, and Vini Jr’s team met with Real’s general director, Jose Angel Sanchez, in Madrid on Wednesday to talk.
Vini Jr is said to want a deal worth around €30 million a year (£25.8 million), including base pay, bonuses for good performances, and a renewal bonus. The renewal bonus has been a tricky part in the talks. Real Madrid hesitated to meet those demands before, but now it looks like they’re offering more.
Real’s coach Jose Mourinho wants Vini Jr to stay, and Vini Jr has said Mourinho just wants him to be happy at the club.
On August 6, Spanish journalist Ramón Álvarez de Mon said Vini Jr and Real Madrid have finally agreed on a new contract, which should be signed soon.
This means Arsenal may look at other players to sign. The Gunners have already brought in Christos Tzolis, Illan Meslier, and Piero Hincapie this summer. They also agreed to sign Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle.
After Arsenal’s 3-1 pre-season loss to Real Betis in Dublin, manager Mikel Arteta spoke about the season ahead. He said he’s “excited” and promised more signings. “We want to fight for every title, that’s our goal,” he said. “We’ll keep getting stronger, with the players we have and through new signings. We’re hopeful.
“All the work this summer is about figuring out what we need to do to win again and build a lasting legacy at this club.”
Arsenal will start their Premier League season at home against newly promoted Coventry on August 21.
