RB Leipzig playfully teased journalist Fabrizio Romano when they announced the big sale of winger Yann Diomande to Real Madrid.
The 19-year-old from Ivory Coast has left the team for around €130 million after scoring 13 goals in 36 games last season.
When sharing the news, the German club tweeted “HERE WE ACTUALLY GO,” making fun of Romano’s famous phrase “Here We Go,” which he uses when a transfer is nearly done.
This came after Romano faced criticism for posting “Here We Go” on July 26, saying Diomande was ready to fly to Madrid with a contract signed and a fee over €100 million reported.
But Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenburg soon questioned that, tweeting that if everything was agreed, the exact transfer fee should be known—adding that no one had confirmed it yet.
Romano quickly fired back, calling the German’s doubts “fake news” and saying, “Don’t worry, Diomande is going to Real Madrid just like Klopp went to Germany.”
The story took another twist when Diomande was seen training with his old club, even though Romano said he would soon be in Madrid finishing the move.
Diomande leaves RB Leipzig, who finished third in the Bundesliga, 34 points behind Real Madrid. Now, he’ll join a Real team led by stars like Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, and Vinicius Jr.
With Jose Mourinho back as Real’s coach, the club is hopeful to bounce back after recent seasons where new managers from Chelsea and Fulham didn’t quite work out.
