Dele Alli is expected to join a Championship team after chatting with the manager.
Former MK Dons manager Karl Robinson believes Dele Alli can bring his career back to life, after news that the midfielder is training with Championship club West Ham ahead of the new season.
The 30-year-old, with 37 England appearances, has been without a club since September last year, when Como let him go after just one game in Serie A. His last competitive match was in March 2025, but it ended suddenly when he got a red card during stoppage time against AC Milan.
Now, the former Tottenham and Everton player is eager to make a comeback. Robinson, who worked with Alli at MK Dons, shared what they talked about after meeting in Marbella, where Alli has been training.
“I caught up with him for about an hour—just a chance meeting,” Robinson told talkSPORT Breakfast. “We talked about football, how he’s feeling, and his desire to get back on the pitch and find an opportunity.
“In today’s world, social media shapes how people see players, but we must remember he’s still a talented player. Being away from football for so long, especially missing pre-season or training for six weeks, makes it tough to come back strong.”
Robinson added, “Not playing a competitive match for over a year will show when he finally steps back onto the field. That game will reveal a lot about where he is.”
He also mentioned Alli’s time training with West Ham and said, “Alli has had several chances to get back to playing, so it’s not anyone else’s fault now. He has to take responsibility. If he gets this chance at West Ham and performs well, everyone will see the talent he still has. But it’s up to him now.”
“I think it’s about him putting his boots back on and doing what he loves,” Robinson concluded.
