Fabrizio Romano hints at another surprise Liverpool signing right after Ronald Araujo’s move from Barcelona.
Liverpool might move fast in the transfer market after surprising everyone by signing Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo out of the blue.
It’s no secret that Liverpool are having a tough time in defense right now, with several key centre-backs and right-backs injured. On top of losing Ibrahima Konate and Andrew Robertson, whose contracts ended, Liverpool are also missing players like Conor Bradley, Giovanni Leoni, Jeremy Jacquet, and Joe Gomez.
Because of this, many fans hoped the club would fix these defensive problems during the summer transfer window. England teammates Ezri Konsa and Djed Spence were both linked to moves to Liverpool.
At first, it seemed like Liverpool weren’t planning to sign any defenders this summer. But transfer expert Fabrizio Romano surprised everyone by confirming Liverpool had signed Barcelona’s Araujo in a loan deal for a season, with an option to buy.
Araujo, 27, can play both centre-back and right-back. Although he has struggled to find form recently and lost his place at Barcelona, he is still their captain and recently extended his contract until 2031. This shows how much Barcelona believes in his ability.
Romano also hinted there might be another surprise signing coming, leaving the door open for one more defender to join before the transfer window closes on September 1. He said the main focus was on strengthening the centre-back position but didn’t rule out getting a right-back.
Before confirming Araujo’s move, Romano also mentioned there were many rumors about right-back signings but said he hadn’t heard news about Djed Spence moving to Liverpool yet.
Aside from defense, Liverpool have also been linked to finding a new forward after the departure of club legend Mohamed Salah. The most talked-about forward is PSG’s Barcola, who reportedly wants to join Liverpool soon.
However, talks between Liverpool and Barcola’s agents have hit a snag because PSG values the 23-year-old winger at about £145 million, while Liverpool are only willing to offer around £115 million.
If Liverpool can’t make a deal for Barcola, they might have to look at other options, like his PSG teammate Ibrahim Mbaye, an 18-year-old right winger who is also said to be on their radar.
