Andy Carroll was sent off in Dagenham and Redbridge’s first game of the season, and now the video of his straight red card has come out.
Former Liverpool and Newcastle striker Andy Carroll had quite a start to the new season after being sent off in Dagenham and Redbridge’s first match. Carroll, who scored 54 goals in 248 Premier League games, is still playing in the National League South at 37.
He joined Dagenham and Redbridge in July 2025 and is also a minority owner as well as the club’s assistant manager. The Daggers began the season against Dorking Wanderers, a team known for climbing the leagues quickly, earning twelve promotions in their first 23 seasons to reach the National League.
However, Carroll had a tough game after being sent off in the 56th minute for an “off-the-ball incident,” according to the club’s official X account. Videos online showed Carroll involved in a scuffle with a Dorking player during a set piece, though the referee didn’t see it until later. Carroll, who was interim boss last season, had to leave the field early.
At the time, Dagenham were 1-0 up thanks to a goal from Kayden Harrack just three minutes into the game. Even with 10 men, the team held on to win. After the red card, Carroll came back in his coaching gear to join the celebrations. He posted on Instagram, “First game, First win, First red card of the season. We have a buzz around this team and I love it.”
Daggers manager Lee Allinson disagreed with the red card and said he would review the incident. He told the club’s YouTube channel, “If it’s a sending off then great, but I’m not so sure it is. Andy says no arm was swung and nothing landed. I think people are quick to judge Andy, but he’s been pushed around for most of the game without one free-kick because he’s a strong centre-forward.”
Last season, Carroll scored six goals in 13 appearances in the National League South after returning from playing in France with Amiens and Bordeaux. Before that, he had spells at Reading and West Brom, along with his time at Newcastle, Liverpool, and West Ham.
Carroll was the most expensive British footballer ever when Liverpool signed him for £35 million in January 2011. He also made nine appearances for England, scoring twice, including a memorable header in a 3-2 win over Sweden at Euro 2012.
