Liverpool’s exciting potential starting lineup if Jeff Bezos finishes his investment, featuring six new signings identified
A group including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, who’s worth over $30 billion, is reportedly trying to buy a one-third share of Liverpool FC. So, what could Liverpool’s starting lineup look like if this deal goes through?
Liverpool is mainly owned by Fenway Sports Group (FSG), but news about this new group buying part of the club might come out soon. Bezos, one of the richest people in the world, has never owned a sports team before. The group’s leader, Amit Bhatia — who used to have shares in QPR and comes from a wealthy steel family — joins Bezos and Saverin as the three very rich people interested in a piece of Liverpool.
Sky News says we might hear about the deal this week or next, with Bezos, Bhatia, and Saverin becoming co-owners. The club could be valued at $6 billion with this deal; FSG bought Liverpool for $300 million back in 2010. Bezos’s worth is around $280 billion!
If this happens, how will Liverpool look on the field in the next few years? New manager Andoni Iraola is stepping in to fix things after some tough times under Arne Slot. One big change is that star winger Mohamed Salah left as a free agent to join Trabzonspor this summer. Salah was key in Liverpool’s 2024-25 title win, making 47 goal contributions in 38 games — a record in England’s top league.
Liverpool’s past success under Jurgen Klopp came with very few big transfers, but those teams won the Premier League with huge points totals. After Salah helped get a second title in 2024-25, Liverpool’s summer spending was their biggest under FSG — bringing in Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, and Hugo Ekitike for about £300 million. Only Ekitike really shined in his first season, though.
If the deal with Bezos and company goes ahead, Liverpool will likely want to strengthen their wingers fast. Young Rio Ngumoha isn’t ready to start full-time yet, and new players like Victor Munoz and Cody Gakpo don’t quite have the same impact. Isak and Wirtz will need to make up for Salah’s huge goal numbers, but two players probably can’t match what Salah did alone. So, Liverpool will need a third top winger — though PSG’s high asking price might have stopped them from signing Bradley Barcola. With Bezos’s money, that could change.
In midfield, some players might have to move on soon. If Endo stays unused like under the last coach, he could be off, and the same goes for Harvey Elliott if he doesn’t impress Iraola. Curtis Jones, who doesn’t seem very happy, and right-back Jeremie Frimpong, who hasn’t worked out well, might also leave.
Goalkeeper Alisson, Liverpool’s best ever, is nearing the end of his time at the club. Plans to slowly replace Virgil Van Dijk in defense are probably already in place. So by 2028-29, Liverpool might have two new midfielders, a new winger, a center-back, a right-back, and a new keeper.
Alessandro Bastoni from Inter Milan seems like the top candidate to replace Van Dijk, with talk that Inter might sell him for a big fee this summer. Other spots will likely be filled by proven Premier League players ready to make big moves, as Liverpool will be able to offer the best money and an exciting project under Iraola.
