Alex Eala happily signs her first sponsorship deal after her big success at the Canadian Open.
Alex Eala has already scored her first big sponsorship deal following the Canadian Open.
Her popularity has really taken off lately, with the 21-year-old making history as the first Filipina to win a WTA singles title by beating Jessica Pegula 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 at the Washington Open final on August 3.
Fans have been loving her too, often cheering her on with Philippine flags during her matches.
On August 6, Eala started strong at the Canadian Open, beating Alycia Parks 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 in the round of 64 and then winning again against Caty McNally in the round of 32.
Her run ended on August 10, when she lost to Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic. Even so, she boosted her reputation and fanbase, earning £60,676 in prize money for her hard work in Toronto.
Alex has also been chosen as the face of Marriott Bonvoy’s Asia Pacific (excluding China) Tennis The World campaign.
Besides the travel brand, she’s also signed a clothing deal with Nike. She already has sponsors like Globe Telecom, Babolat, Bank of the Philippine Islands, Milo Philippines, and Locally Juice behind her.
Eala is set to play next at the Cincinnati Open starting August 13, where she’s seeded 17th. She’ll also compete in the US Open later in August, but first, she plans to take a short break.
After her loss to Bencic, Alex said, “I’ll probably take a day or two off. I need to travel to Cincinnati, get a haircut—I haven’t had one in a while. My nails have grown out too.
“I’ll do a few things to take my mind off tennis. Toronto’s a great place for that. I might catch up with some friends in Cincinnati and just try to have fun.
“I’ll be back on the court soon, so I want to enjoy the time off while I can.”
