Marcus Rashford shares his thoughts on staying at Man United after the summer – report
Marcus Rashford’s future at Manchester United has been a hot topic all summer, and now there’s some news about how he feels about staying at Old Trafford beyond this season.
Rashford was left out by Ruben Amorim at United at the end of 2024 because of his training attitude and not fitting into the tactical plans. At 28, he moved to Aston Villa on loan in February 2025, where he did really well under Unai Emery. Then, he took it up another notch during the whole 2025/26 season at Barcelona.
He played a big part in helping Hansi Flick’s team win the LaLiga title, with 28 goal contributions in all competitions, including five goals and four assists in the Champions League. After such an amazing season, many thought Barcelona would sign him permanently, but surprisingly, they decided not to pay the £26 million fee to keep him.
Since then, Rashford has been thinking about his next move this summer. Clubs from Turkey, Germany, Italy, and Saudi Arabia have shown interest, and several Premier League teams want to sign him before the transfer deadline on September 1.
Now, all eyes are on Michael Carrick and what he will decide after Rashford came back to training this week. Carrick seems happy to have him back. “We have the full squad this week in Dublin. Marcus is part of that,” he said.
There’s a chance Carrick will fully bring Rashford back into the team, especially since Rashford was recently given the No.14 shirt as a sign of trust. He could be the left-wing option United need or maybe even play in the middle alongside Benjamin Sesko.
Rashford might even play when United visits Hull City on August 22 for the Premier League opener. But until the transfer window closes, his future is still up in the air.
According to The Mirror, Rashford would rather find a new club to restart his career after a tough 18 months at United. The report says, “He feels there’s been too much bad blood between him and his hometown club, and he knows there’s still time this summer to find a deal that works for him.”
His current contract runs until 2028, which means he can either stay two more years and leave for free later or use the next season to prove himself and hopefully get a big move in 2027.
He earns about £300,000 a week, which makes it harder for the club to let him go because of his wages.
Only time will tell if Rashford finally leaves his boyhood club for good or stays to work with Carrick and get back to his top form in the Premier League. For now, it looks like he prefers to move on, but making that happen won’t be easy.
