Trent Alexander-Arnold has faced some criticism for how he acted on social media during a recent chat with a Real Madrid fan.
Last summer, Trent ended his 21-year time with Liverpool and joined Real Madrid on a free transfer. Many Liverpool fans weren’t happy about this move.
Trent is well known as one of the best right-backs in Premier League history. He made 85 goal contributions in 259 games and holds the record for the most assists by a defender in the league, with 64 assists—just ahead of his former teammate Andy Robertson.
However, since moving to Real Madrid, he’s had a tough time. Last season, he missed 22 games because of injury and hasn’t quite matched the form that won him so much praise at Liverpool. This tough patch even led to him being left out of England’s World Cup squad, which was another setback.
But now, with the new 2026/27 season coming up, Trent has a chance to turn things around at Real Madrid under the new coach, Jose Mourinho. He’s been working hard in pre-season to make a good impression.
In a recent friendly against Fiorentina, Trent started as right-back, while new signing Denzel Dumfries, brought in as competition, played on the right wing. In another friendly win against Ferencvaros, Trent came on at halftime to replace Dumfries. The two will likely compete for the right-back spot when Real Madrid starts LaLiga against Espanyol on August 22.
Trent has shown flashes of his skill in pre-season, especially with his passing and crossing. Fans hope he has a much better season ahead.
