Myles Lewis-Skelly’s future is clear as Man United and Chelsea make their final transfer choice.
Myles Lewis-Skelly now knows where he’ll be playing next season after being offered to both Chelsea and Manchester United. When he broke into the scene at the start of the 2024/25 season, many thought he could be Arsenal’s defensive star of the future.
The Arsenal academy graduate even earned his first England cap under Thomas Tuchel and played 75 games in all competitions. But last season, he found it hard to get much time on the pitch. Because of this, there were rumors about his future, with Manchester United showing interest after missing out on Newcastle’s Lewis Hall, who was called ‘untouchable’ by his club following a tough summer.
Reports say Manchester United have admired the young defender for a while, and Chelsea was also offered the chance to sign him. Arsenal has set a price tag of £45 million and hopes to make a good profit from selling him. However, The Telegraph says that both Chelsea and Manchester United decided not to sign Lewis-Skelly this summer.
Chelsea, after selling their star defender Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid, are happy with their new signing Pep Chavarria from Rayo Vallecano, and never seriously thought about making an offer for Lewis-Skelly. Similarly, United passed on the chance to sign him despite earlier interest.
This leaves Lewis-Skelly’s future at Arsenal a bit uncertain. Manager Mikel Arteta seems to prefer Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapie at left-back. Plus, with Arsenal recently signing Newcastle’s captain Bruno Guimaraes, Lewis-Skelly’s midfield skills might not help him get much more playing time next season.
It’s believed that Lewis-Skelly has also been offered to other Premier League clubs, but Liverpool is not one of them. Even though he might get more chances elsewhere, he’s said to be determined to fight for his place at Arsenal despite tough competition.
In other news, while Lewis-Skelly looks set to stay, another England defender might move this summer. According to The Sun, Everton is interested in signing 36-year-old Kyle Walker, giving him a chance to play in the Premier League again after Burnley was relegated last season. Walker joined Burnley from Manchester City last summer but has caught the eye of Everton’s manager David Moyes, who has tried to sign him twice before. Everton is also linked with Crystal Palace’s Daniel Munoz as they look to bring in new defenders before the transfer window closes.
