Brennan Johnson fires back at Gabby Agbonlahor and Jamie O’Hara with a savage reply after their harsh comments
New Everton signing Brennan Johnson has responded to talkSPORT’s Jamie O’Hara and Gabriel Agbonlahor after they criticized him on air.
Johnson, 25, signed a four-year deal with Everton on Tuesday, while Dwight McNeil moved the other way to Crystal Palace as part of a swap.
The Wales international only joined Palace in January, playing 26 games without scoring but providing two assists. He also helped his team win the Conference League, adding to the Europa League trophy he won last season with Spurs, where he scored the winning goal in their final against Manchester United.
Despite this, O’Hara and Agbonlahor didn’t hold back about the swap deal, especially targeting Johnson.
“I like Dwight McNeil. Brennan Johnson’s been talked about for a few seasons but hasn’t delivered big in key games,” O’Hara said.
Agbonlahor added, “Look at their stats — Johnson had 16 appearances for Spurs with two goals, zero assists; at Palace, no goals, one assist. Plus four yellow cards in 18 games.” O’Hara laughed at that.
He continued, “McNeil last season had 22 Premier League games with zero goals and one assist, so he’s not doing a lot either.”
“I like McNeil,” O’Hara said again. “If I had to pick, I’d take him. He works hard and has a great left foot. Johnson’s frustrating — he’s got talent but doesn’t use it right.”
Agbonlahor agreed: “He’s fast but doesn’t use his pace well. He often makes the wrong choice — passes when he should attack or doesn’t want the ball back.”
O’Hara added, “Maybe Moyes at Everton is a good fit. Johnson’s got the tools — Spurs paid 50 million for him after all.”
The clip was shared on talkSPORT’s Instagram and got 6,000 likes by Wednesday morning.
Johnson saw it and replied simply, “Won more than both of these put together,” followed by a laughing emoji. His comment got over 10,000 likes.
Talking to Everton’s website about his new club, Johnson said, “I’m really excited to be here. Everton is a huge club, and when I heard they were interested, I wanted to join straight away.
“There were many reasons I wanted to come — the manager, the players, the club’s direction. It feels like the right place for me because I want to grow, and this is the right club for that.
“I want to show what I can do. The manager spoke with me about getting back to my best form, which means a lot. It’s great to hear from someone so experienced and successful who believes in me.”
