F1 team boss let go right away, new leader announced before Dutch GP
F1 team Cadillac has surprised everyone by letting go of their team principal, Graeme Lowdon, just before the Dutch Grand Prix. They also revealed his replacement at the same time.
The team, based in Silverstone, shared the news on social media Wednesday afternoon (August 12).
Lowdon started as team principal in December 2024 and helped bring in drivers Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas.
In a statement, Cadillac’s CEO Dan Towriss thanked Lowdon for all his hard work.
“We appreciate Graeme Lowdon’s leadership and the key role he played in building the Cadillac Formula 1 Team from scratch,” Towriss said. “He helped create a solid foundation, and we wish him all the best.”
Cadillac also announced that Marcin Budkowski will take over as team principal right away. Budkowski comes with over 20 years of experience in F1.
This change is part of a “planned leadership transition.” The 49-year-old Budkowski will start immediately, with his first race at the Dutch Grand Prix on August 21-23, after the summer break.
“Marcin’s appointment is an important step for the growth of the Cadillac Formula 1 Team,” Towriss added. “Our goal has always been to build a top team, not just to take part in F1. Marcin brings excellent F1 knowledge, technical skill, and leadership that will help us build a winning mindset, tools, and processes for long-term success.”
Budkowski has worked in big roles for Prost, Ferrari, McLaren, the FIA, and Renault/Alpine, helping Alpine’s transition into F1.
“Cadillac has a strong base and big ambitions,” said Budkowski.
“This is a great opportunity for the team to focus on developing the car within the cost cap and making every part of the team work together to compete. That means building a top organization with a winning attitude—focused, detailed, and precise on race day. I want to make sure our people, tools, and information flow well so we can make quick decisions and improve the car’s performance every race. It’s an honor to lead Cadillac’s F1 efforts starting in Zandvoort next weekend.”
Right now, Cadillac is the only team without points after 11 races.
