Spurs have chosen their next big signing after finishing deals for Savinho and Cody Gakpo.
Spurs are reportedly close to finalizing two big signings this summer: Savinho from Manchester City and Cody Gakpo from Liverpool. But they’re not done yet!
Roberto De Zerbi’s team has been one of the busiest in the Premier League transfer window, spending nearly £250 million on new players so far. They smashed their transfer record by signing Mateus Fernandes from West Ham for about £85 million, then broke it again by paying £100 million for Sandro Tonali from Newcastle.
They’ve also strengthened their defense with free signings like Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson, plus Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton. Still, De Zerbi wants more attacking players because Spurs struggled to score goals last season. Only seven teams scored fewer than their 48 goals, including relegated Burnley and Wolves, which partly explains their 17th-place finish.
Spurs have been trying to sign Savinho from City for a while, but things seemed to slow down recently. Brazilian media say Spurs offered around £85 million for the Brazilian winger, but Manchester City haven’t agreed to sell yet. Meanwhile, Dutch reports say Spurs have made a £60 million bid for Liverpool’s Gakpo, who is said to have already agreed personal terms to join.
De Zerbi has hinted there’s still one more “bomba” — a big signing — coming this summer. According to TEAMtalk, Spurs have started early talks to bring in Monaco striker Folarin Balogun, who used to be with their rivals Arsenal. They’d likely need to sell a player first, with Dominic Solanke or Richarlison possibly leaving.
Last week, it was reported Balogun is interested in returning to the Premier League. Meanwhile, there’s been talk about Galatasaray’s striker Victor Osimhen, but his high price and wages might scare Spurs off. The Turkish club even turned down a huge £111 million offer for him from a Saudi team recently, so signing him seems unlikely.
Spurs were also linked with Bournemouth’s young striker Eli Junior Kroupi, but the Cherries don’t want to sell as they prepare for their first European season in the Europa League. Plus, Kroupi is set to miss the start of the season due to a foot injury and might be out for three to four months.
