Liverpool star’s agent speaks up after Man City bid rumors

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister’s agent had to step in and clear the air after rumors popped up about Manchester City showing interest in signing him.

Alexis recently got back to training with Liverpool after his World Cup break, where he played for Argentina. Last season was tough for the 27-year-old, as Liverpool finished fifth in the Premier League, a big drop from being champions the year before. With new manager Andoni Iraola now in charge and no big changes made to the midfield, Mac Allister is expected to be an important part of the team.

There were reports from talkSPORT’s Ben Jacobs that City had quietly talked about Mac Allister as a possible replacement for Rodri, who might be leaving for Barcelona. But Jacobs also said no official talks have happened yet between the clubs. Still, the rumor worried Liverpool fans because the team is already a bit short on players, with less than three weeks left to sign anyone new.

To calm things down, Alexis’ dad and agent, Carlos, made a quick statement saying, “Alexis will stay at Liverpool, and we haven’t talked about him leaving this summer.”

Another teammate, Dominik Szoboszlai, also caused a bit of confusion when he said “if Alexis comes back” before a friendly match against Leeds on August 2. He soon fixed that, saying it was just his English and that he meant “when,” not “if.” He confirmed, “He is coming back and will definitely be part of the team.”

On a related note, another Liverpool midfielder, Curtis Jones, might not be around next season. The 25-year-old was almost off to Inter Milan in January but stayed for now. However, Inter is trying again this transfer window. Reports say Jones and Inter have agreed on personal terms, and now Inter and Liverpool are working out the transfer fee. One sticking point seems to be whether to include a sell-on clause, which would let Liverpool earn more if Jones does really well at Inter.
