Supercomputer predicts the 2026/27 Championship standings as Wrexham and Wolves face tough moments, Birmingham earns a Premier League comeback, and a World Cup star shines bright
After a long summer break, the 2026/27 Championship season is finally here, and it’s set to be an exciting one with some big clubs involved.
West Ham United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Burnley join the Championship after being relegated from the Premier League last year, adding plenty of top-level quality to the mix.
Phil Parkinson’s Wrexham will be eager to go one better after just missing out on the play-offs last season.
Meanwhile, Oxford United, Leicester City, and Sheffield United are now playing in League One, with Lincoln City, Cardiff City, and Bolton Wanderers joining the Championship after earning promotion.
With 46 matches to play before the play-offs, how will this season unfold?
SPORTbible’s supercomputer dug deep into the upcoming season, and some fans are sure to be happier than others with the predictions.

According to SPORTbible’s supercomputer, Nuno Espirito Santo is set to lead West Ham to the title with 94 points.
Even though Crysencio Summerville left for Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal, West Ham managed to keep Jarrod Bowen on a new contract and brought in experienced players like Joel Veltman from Brighton and Manor Solomon, formerly of Spurs.
Middlesbrough, last season’s play-off finalists, are predicted to go up in second place despite losing key midfielder Hayden Hackney to Premier League side Everton.
Boro have also signed new faces including Will Lankshear from Spurs, Radek Vitek from Manchester United, and others like Max Artsten, Kyle Joseph, Jeremy Sarmiento, Sebastian Berhalter, and Myles Peart-Harris.
Birmingham City are forecasted to earn promotion through the play-offs. The Blues haven’t played top-flight football since 2011 but have strengthened their squad with Jhon Solis, Luis Vazquez, Kristoffer Lund, and Dael Fry during the summer.
Southampton, last year’s play-off semi-finalists, are expected to challenge for promotion again, predicted to finish fourth with 79 points. Wolves come in fifth with 77, and Sheffield United just edge out Wrexham by two points to claim sixth spot.
This means Sheffield United would face Birmingham in the play-off semis, with Birmingham predicted to win 3-1 on aggregate after two matches. Southampton are tipped to beat Wolves 3-2 on aggregate in the other semi-final.
Birmingham are then forecasted to beat Southampton 2-1 after extra time in the play-off final, returning to the Premier League after 16 years away.
Sadly, the supercomputer predicts that two of the three newly promoted teams—Bolton and Lincoln—will be relegated, along with Queens Park Rangers dropping to League One. Charlton Athletic are expected to survive, just barely, on the final day.
Canada’s Southampton forward Cyle Larin is predicted to win the Golden Boot with 25 goals, followed by Middlesbrough’s Lankshear with 23 and West Ham’s Bowen with 21.
