Iga Swiatek makes a surprise comment right after winning the Canadian Open against Elena Rybakina.

After her 6-2, 6-3 win over Elena Rybakina in the Canadian Open final, Iga Swiatek didn’t hold back in speaking her mind. The Polish star took just over an hour to secure the title, winning the first set 6-2 in only 25 minutes.

Swiatek, a six-time Grand Slam winner, now has 26 WTA Tour singles titles, including this big 1000-level event in Canada. This was her first trophy of the year, coming after a tough season where she didn’t win a Slam and faced losses at the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and the French Open.

Last year, she made headlines with a dominant Wimbledon win over Amanda Anisimova. This year, she got knocked out in the Round of 32 by rising star Alex Eala, who then lost in Canada’s Round of 16 to Belinda Bencic. That opened the door for Swiatek to push through and ultimately win the tournament.

To earn this title, Swiatek stayed sharp, saving two break points and serving strongly. She won more points on both first and second serves than Rybakina, improving her head-to-head record against her to 7-3. The only time Rybakina beat her recently was in January at the Australian Open quarters.

Swiatek came into the Canadian Open with a clear goal of proving herself after a rough year. In a post-match interview, she spoke honestly about the criticism she’s faced. She said, “It feels great, especially with all the judging and hate—mostly from experts, not even fans, at home and internationally.”

She added that she’s learning to care less about the negativity and hoped her win shows that the criticism often doesn’t make sense. After lifting the trophy, she dedicated her victory to everyone dealing with unfair judgment and hate.

“I’m really happy about this tournament,” Swiatek shared. “The past months were tough, but I kept working on my game, improving, despite all the opinions online. It’s not easy, but you have to keep pushing and focus on what’s best for you.”

She finished by saying the best part of these two weeks was being able to let go of the “unnecessary noise” that had been bothering her. Swiatek’s message is clear: stay focused, work hard, and don’t let the negativity get to you.
