Jamie Vardy is set for a surprise return to England, as the chairman shared his interest during a live broadcast.
Jamie Vardy might be making an exciting comeback to English football, as a club chairman recently showed interest in him during a live radio show.
Vardy left Italian team Cremonese at the end of June after scoring seven goals in 29 games. Even though he had a good season personally, Cremonese got relegated to Serie B. The 39-year-old chose to leave when his contract ended, and it’s clear he’s not thinking about retiring yet.
Recently, West Ham United have been linked with signing him after dropping down to the Championship. Their manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, believes Vardy still has a lot to give, though he wouldn’t be their main striker. They are more focused on signing Troy Parrott from AZ Alkmaar, with Vardy likely playing a backup role if he joins the club.
Dutch team Feyenoord showed interest earlier in the transfer window, but Vardy prefers to return to England. One club knows this and made their interest clear for everyone to hear.
Many assumed Vardy might go back to his boyhood club, Sheffield Wednesday, after leaving Cremonese. He was let go from their academy as a teenager, which led him to play non-league football with Stocksbridge Park Steels—after which his career took off.
However, Sheffield Wednesday have had a tough few years. The club went into administration in October 2025 and faced financial problems that led to an 18-point deduction and relegation from the Championship with zero points. Now in League One, they have new backing from a US group with big plans, including wanting to bring Vardy home.
Chairman David Storch told talkSPORT: “At some point I’ll be able to share a story; maybe not now, but Jamie is definitely someone we want at our club.”
When asked if they hope to talk to Vardy soon, Storch said: “Let’s just say we’d be very happy to have him. The problem is we have some restrictions to work through so we can offer Jamie something that works for him.”
A reunion might be tricky, though. On his podcast, Vardy admitted, “No, it’s not going to happen. Once I was let go, that chapter was closed for me. It just wasn’t meant to be.”
Right now, Vardy is staying fit with Leicester City. During a special time with the Foxes, he helped them win the Premier League and FA Cup. Leicester City are now also in League One after two consecutive relegations.
