Turkish media share their thoughts on Mo Salah’s first game with Trabzonspor after leaving Liverpool

Some Turkish media have shared their thoughts on Mohamed Salah’s first game for Trabzonspor.

The 34-year-old joined the Turkish club earlier this month after taking some time to decide where to go following his departure from Liverpool.

Salah made his debut by coming on as a substitute in the 58th minute during a 1-1 away draw against Kasimpasa in the Super Lig. He swapped places with Metehan Mimaroglu and played on the right side of the attack.

He almost scored for Trabzonspor, narrowly missing a close-range volley from a free-kick. Salah was confident with the ball and ran straight at defenders, showing great skill. Many fans noticed that his role felt more like the one he plays for Egypt, rather than his Liverpool position.

Although Salah couldn’t help Trabzonspor win the match, Kasimpasa’s striker Adrian Benedyczak scored from a penalty just before Salah came on to equalize at 1-1.

Now, the Turkish media have shared their opinions on Salah’s debut. Fanatik called his entrance onto the field that of a “superstar,” while Anadolu Ajansi pointed out that he was “heavily involved in the final moments of the game.” They said Trabzonspor’s best chance to win was from Salah’s dangerous free kick, which just missed the target.

Hurriyet focused more on Kasimpasa’s Benedyczak, calling him a “sensation.” Fotospor highlighted how Salah took charge on the right wing and stood out with the chances he created near the opponent’s goal. They praised his one-on-one skills and ball handling, saying his lively performance earned good reviews from both coaches and fans. They also mentioned that while he’s still getting back to full fitness, Salah will definitely be a key goal scorer for Trabzonspor.

beIN Sports also said Salah impressed even though he didn’t score and almost made an impact on his debut.

Salah might play his first full match for Trabzonspor when they host Ferencvaros in the Europa League play-off first leg on Thursday, August 20. The second leg will be a week later in Hungary. These two matches are scheduled around a Super Lig home game against Istanbul Basaksehir, managed by former Liverpool midfielder Nuri Sahin. Basaksehir finished fifth in the league last season.

Trabzonspor hopes Salah’s signing will help them challenge for the title. They came third last season, eight points behind champions Galatasaray. The club last won the league in the 2021/22 season, their first title in 38 years.
