Videos showing Ruben Amorim meeting several Manchester United players, including Harry Amass, have made fans wonder if the Portuguese coach really lost the locker room since there were both friendly hugs and some cold reactions. Amorim met many of his former Manchester United players after bringing his new team, AC Milan, to Old Trafford during their pre-season tour.

Amorim had a tough time managing Manchester United and was fired last season, replaced by club legend Michael Carrick. Towards the end of his time there, rumors spread that Amorim had lost control of the dressing room, which often happens when a coach struggles.

One player said to be at odds with Amorim was then-loanee Amass, who was loaned out to Sheffield Wednesday after struggling under Amorim. The coach even criticized the 19-year-old, saying Amass was “struggling in the Championship,” when asked about other young players getting chances.

After AC Milan’s 4-2 win at Old Trafford, videos of Amorim’s friendly interactions with Amass and other players made fans question if the criticism and rumors were overblown. However, three players did seem to avoid greeting Amorim, adding a mixed feeling to the whole event.

Amass responded to Amorim’s earlier comments by posting a picture on Instagram of him holding Sheffield Wednesday’s Player of the Month award, showing he wasn’t really struggling. Fans were split, with some thinking Amorim shouldn’t have criticized the young player publicly, while others said Amass’s reaction showed a pattern of young Red Devils players pushing back against authority.

In the videos, Amorim was seen shaking hands and hugging players like Matheus Cunha, Lisandro Martinez, and Leny Yoro, but Marcus Rashford, Diogo Dalot, and Kobbie Mainoo didn’t join the group and seemed to give him the cold shoulder.

Amorim only won three of his last 11 Premier League games with Manchester United before being sacked. His AC Milan team won the recent match at Old Trafford after coming from behind twice, outshooting and outpassing their opponents, and scoring important goals from Goncalo Ramos and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

This footage and the win suggest that Amorim’s time at Manchester United might not have been as big a failure as some fans have said since Carrick took over. Still, the fact that a few players seemed to keep their distance leaves some questions.

Manchester United will start their 2026-27 Premier League season next Saturday at 12:30 PM against Hull City, with the game shown on TNT Sports.
