Former Liverpool star given chance to return to Anfield after 834 days away

Liverpool wrapped up their pre-season with a 2-0 win against Como, getting ready for their first Premier League game this weekend at Newcastle United.

Over the summer, Andoni Iraola has been looking at the squad closely. Fans are still hoping for some new signings, but also expect a few players to leave before the transfer window closes.

Reds supporters might remember that Liverpool actually played two games against Como yesterday. Before the evening match, there was a 70-minute game at the AXA Training Centre to make sure the whole squad got some match practice ahead of their opener against the Magpies.

One player was missing from both games, and it looks like he’s on his way out of Anfield. This isn’t too surprising since he last played for Liverpool 834 days ago in a 4-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Stefan Bajcetic is reportedly set to leave Liverpool and join La Liga side Getafe, according to Fabrizio Romano. The young Spanish international has had a tough time at Liverpool since his impressive debut season.

Bajcetic looked like the future, especially when Fabinho left in 2023. He stepped up as a strong backup and even made history by becoming the youngest player to appear in the Champions League for Liverpool, breaking Billy Koumetio’s record during a match against Ajax in September 2022.

Unfortunately, an injury in March 2023 slowed his progress. He only played three times the next season, with his final Liverpool appearance being that 25-minute stint against Spurs.

The 21-year-old spent 2024/25 on loan at Red Bull Salzburg, but that season ended without a title as Sturm Graz won the Austrian Bundesliga. The following season on loan at Las Palmas was tough too, as the club was relegated from La Liga.

Last season, Bajcetic didn’t play at all for Liverpool, even though he stayed with the team.

Now, with a move to Getafe looking likely, this could be a great chance for Bajcetic to restart his career and fulfill the potential he showed at just 18 under Jurgen Klopp in his first senior season.
