Premier League club looking into surprise Marcus Rashford transfer just days before the deadline
A surprising Premier League club is reportedly thinking about a late move for Marcus Rashford before the September 1 deadline.
Rashford played for Manchester United for the first time this season on August 22, coming on as a substitute in their 2-0 loss to Hull City. The 28-year-old, who is signed with United until 2028, has been linked with transfers away from his hometown club for a while. Over the last two seasons, he was loaned to Aston Villa and Barcelona.
He did well at Barca and helped them win La Liga last season, but they chose not to pay £26 million to keep him permanently. So, Rashford returned to United and is now back in Michael Carrick’s squad.
Reports say several clubs across Europe, including teams from Turkey, Germany, Italy, and the Premier League, have shown interest in him. While Carrick wants to keep Rashford, The Independent says Chelsea, managed by Xabi Alonso, might make a late bid before the transfer window closes.
This move might depend on whether Chelsea’s striker Nicolas Jackson leaves for Atletico Madrid or Aston Villa, which could affect other transfers. If Rashford joins Chelsea, he would likely be their highest-paid player, earning £325,000 a week. Currently, Wesley Fofana and Reece James earn the most at Chelsea, making £200,000 weekly.
Chelsea’s new boss Alonso started well with a 3-2 win over Fulham on August 24, with goals from Joao Pedro, Cole Palmer, and new signing Morgan Rogers. Chelsea has already spent a lot this summer, around £350 million, on players like Valentin Barco, Pep Chavarria, Jordan Henderson, and others.
Several players have left too, including Trevoh Chalobah (Como), Marc Cucurella (Real Madrid), and Tyrique George (Everton). Others like Richard Olise and Jimmy-Jay Morgan have also moved on.
Meanwhile, Enzo Fernandez might leave Chelsea soon, possibly to join Manchester City. The club is still interested in Bournemouth’s Alex Scott but has had three offers between £62 million and £68 million turned down.
