Ismaila Sarr has already made it very clear how he feels about joining Liverpool.
Liverpool are making a late push to sign Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr, and the Senegal star has already shared his thoughts about joining the club.
During the transfer window, Liverpool have been eager to add another attacking player after bringing in Victor Munoz from Osasuna for £34.5 million in June. Bradley Barcola has been their top choice and remains their dream signing, but talks with Paris Saint-Germain have been tough.
PSG first asked for a huge £145 million for Barcola, which Liverpool weren’t ready to pay. They’ve now dropped the price to £120 million, and after a recent meeting, a deal seems more possible in the next day or so.
If that doesn’t happen, Liverpool have been looking at other options, including Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh. They’ve tried offers of £50m and £60m, but Brighton want about £80m for the 22-year-old, which Liverpool aren’t willing to pay.
So, Liverpool have turned their eyes to Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr, who scored 21 goals last season. The Reds had a £50m offer turned down for the 28-year-old, and Palace also rejected two bids from Galatasaray, including one for £35m.
Like Minteh, Sarr is a strong, fast winger with Premier League experience. He’s seen as a good option to eventually replace Mohamed Salah on the right side. But Palace want to keep him since his contract runs until 2029.
Sarr will be important for Palace’s Europa League games after helping them win the Conference League last May. Still, a late move from Liverpool might catch his attention.
Many players dream of joining a top club like Liverpool because of their history, big fanbase, and Champions League football. Sarr spoke about Liverpool back in 2020, saying, “Liverpool are a really great team – everyone would love to play there. Everyone would love to play at Anfield.”
Liverpool have liked Sarr for years, putting him on a shortlist back in 2020 when he was at Watford, alongside Jonathan David and Diogo Jota, who eventually joined Liverpool for £45m.
Now, Liverpool will probably have to pay well over £50m to get Sarr, a player they’ve admired for a long time, and they need to act fast to make a deal happen.
Palace’s coach Andoni Iraola wants two new wingers before the September 1 deadline. If Barcola is one, then Minteh or Sarr could be the other – it all depends on whether Brighton or Palace decide to lower their prices.
