Liverpool fans feel one player isn’t quite playing at the right level after the draw with Nottingham Forest.
Liverpool fans aren’t too happy with one player after the team’s 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest. On Saturday (August 29), Andoni Iraola managed his first Premier League game at Anfield. Liverpool wanted to avoid losing at home for the third time in a row against Forest.
The match didn’t start well for Liverpool. Morgan Gibbs-White set up Dan Ndoye, who scored for Forest after 24 minutes. Liverpool thought they had equalized around the 30-minute mark when Florian Wirtz scored, but the goal was ruled out because Jeremie Frimpong was offside in the lead-up.
The second half began evenly, but Cody Gakpo, who is still linked with a move to Spurs, assisted Alexander Isak for Liverpool’s equalizer on the hour. However, Forest took the lead again in the 70th minute after Alisson gave away a penalty by fouling Neco Williams. Gibbs-White scored from the spot.
Fans were happy earlier to hear that Liverpool agreed a deal worth £106 million (plus £17 million in add-ons) for Bradley Barcola. The club is also said to be interested in Matias Fernandez-Pardo, who Newcastle United had been chasing.
New signing Jeremy Jacquet seems to be settling in well alongside Virgil van Dijk, but many fans feel another new player is struggling. Victor Munoz got a lot of criticism on social media during the first half.
One fan said, “Munoz looks just like I thought he would when we signed him – rushing his actions and no good final ball. Disappointing since he had chances today.” Another added, “I don’t rate Munoz at all. He can’t handle the Premier League’s pace.” Someone else commented, “I think Munoz is a work-in-progress and not at the level yet. He looks lonely out there, especially with Gakpo not playing on the right.” Others were even tougher, calling Munoz “one of the worst wingers I’ve seen in a Liverpool shirt” and “completely lost on the pitch.”
Munoz did respond late in the game by scoring his first Liverpool goal to make it 2-2. Still, some fans say he needs to improve a lot to keep his place in the team.
Liverpool’s next match is away at Ipswich Town on September 4.
