Richarlison shared a mysterious message on social media after news broke that he’s likely returning to Everton from Tottenham Hotspur. On Sunday morning, David Ornstein from The Athletic reported that Spurs had agreed in principle to let the Brazilian star head back to Merseyside.
Even though he left Everton four years ago, the 29-year-old is still a fan favorite. In his final season with the club, despite playing through injury, he scored 11 goals that helped keep Everton in the Premier League.
Now, he’s expected to rejoin Everton in a deal worth around £35 million. At the same time, Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye will be moving to Spurs for about £60 million. Reports say these transfers aren’t a swap but two separate deals.
In other news, Fabrizio Romano says Everton is also close to negotiating with Manchester City to bring back Jack Grealish, who was on loan there last season.
Regarding Richarlison’s time at Spurs, he started in their 3-0 opening day loss to Brentford but missed the squad in the recent 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle because of injury. Since moving from Everton in 2022 for £60 million, injuries have been tough on him, but he still scored crucial goals, including 11 last season.
After the transfer news, Richarlison posted on Instagram a photo of himself in a Spurs shirt with a Portuguese mural saying, “I am the villain of many poorly told stories,” along with a thinking emoji. He also disabled comments on this post, which quickly got over 33,000 likes.
Back in 2022, Richarlison told FourFourTwo he was happy at Everton and praised the club’s history, but felt they lacked ambition. He said, “I spent four years there and could see there was a long way to go to achieve big things. It felt right to move on, and the club needed to make money. It was a good deal for everyone. I’m excited about this new challenge at Spurs.”
Four years later, Richarlison will likely hope his return to Everton brings even more success, especially after winning the 2025 Europa League with Spurs under manager Ange Postecoglou.
