Liverpool is in talks for a Bayern Munich target to replace a surprising player linked with a move to Premier League rivals.
Liverpool have reached out about signing a highly promising young player, just as surprising news links one of their star players with a possible move away from Anfield. With the 11pm transfer deadline on Tuesday (September 1) fast approaching, Premier League clubs only have a few days left to wrap up deals that will last until the end of 2026.
Many top English clubs are busy working on transfers right now, and Liverpool are no exception. They’ve been handling both incoming and outgoing moves. After weeks of speculation, the Reds have finally secured their main target, Bradley Barcola, joining from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal that could be worth up to £123 million. Another winger is believed to be next on their list.
But before they focus fully on bringing in a new forward, Liverpool might need to think about strengthening their defense. Reports suggest that their second goalkeeper, Giorgi Mamardashvili, could be on his way out. Mamardashvili joined Liverpool last summer and filled in well for Alisson during his injury spells, making 20 appearances in the 2025/26 season. Since Alisson’s return, though, the Georgian keeper hasn’t played much, which has caught the attention of Nottingham Forest. The Premier League side has reportedly asked about signing him.
Earlier this summer, Liverpool seemed open to loaning Mamardashvili to another club, with Juventus and other Italian teams among the interested parties. However, Nottingham Forest want to bring the 25-year-old in on a permanent deal, seeing him as an upgrade over their current keeper, Matz Sels, who recently conceded twice to Liverpool.
That said, signing Mamardashvili won’t be easy or cheap for Forest, especially so close to the deadline. Liverpool are only willing to consider big offers for him before Tuesday night.
In the meantime, a journalist named Sacha Tavolieri says Liverpool are already planning for Mamardashvili’s possible exit. The Reds have identified 18-year-old Genk goalkeeper Luccha Brughmans as a potential new signing. Club officials are impressed by the youngster’s potential.
Brughmans, who stands an impressive 6’7”, has made 15 appearances for Genk with six clean sheets. He’s attracted interest from clubs across Europe, including Bayern Munich. Football expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Liverpool have already contacted Genk about signing Brughmans, and a deal seems likely before the deadline.
Romano also mentioned that Liverpool are deciding whether to bring Brughmans in right away—especially if Mamardashvili moves to Forest—or to sign him now but let him join the club in 2027, similar to how Mamardashvili’s contract started with a loan season at Valencia.
