Spurs and Chelsea set to make a deal again for the first time in 17 years, with a double transfer nearly done.
London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are about to do transfer business with each other for only the second time since 2009, with a surprising double deal possible, according to reports.
This summer, Spurs have spent nearly £400 million as they support manager Roberto De Zerbi in rebuilding the team after finishing 17th last season. The plan was to wrap up the rebuild by signing Everton winger Iliman Ndiaye for around £60 million, with talks reportedly settled in principle on Sunday.
Richarlison was expected to move the other way in a separate deal worth about £35 million, but he hasn’t agreed to personal terms for the move to Everton and even posted a rare message about the situation on social media.
Meanwhile, Manchester City have stepped in and agreed to sign Ndiaye, with the transfer likely to be completed before the window closes at 11 pm on Tuesday. This has forced Spurs to look elsewhere for new players, and now they’re set to sign two from their fierce London rivals.
On Monday evening, BBC Sport reported that Spurs are in talks to loan Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk, who is allowed to leave Stamford Bridge temporarily. Mudryk was cleared to play again last month after being suspended since a failed drugs test in December 2024. His four-year ban was overturned because changes in testing rules mean his sample wouldn’t count as a violation today.
Before moving to Chelsea in January 2023 for £88 million, Mudryk was managed by De Zerbi at Shakhtar Donetsk, and the Spurs boss is eager to reunite with the 25-year-old.
That’s not the only deal brewing between the clubs. The Athletic reported Spurs have agreed a surprise permanent signing of centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo. The 28-year-old defender became surplus to requirements at Chelsea after Maxence Lacroix joined from Crystal Palace. Spurs have agreed personal terms with Tosin, and he’s expected to have a medical on Tuesday.
Tosin will be the fifth Chelsea centre-back to leave this summer, following Trevoh Chalobah’s permanent move to Como, and Benoit Badiashile, Mamadou Sarr, and Axel Disasi all going out on loan.
The last time Spurs and Chelsea made a direct transfer was in 2023, when young striker Jude Soonsup-Bell joined Spurs’ development squad. Before that, you’d have to go back to 2009 when goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini moved to Spurs on a free transfer. He played 37 times for Spurs over four years before moving to LA Galaxy in 2013.
