Arsenal is about to make millions on deadline day from two players who aren’t even playing for the club!
Arsenal are set to make around £10 million on deadline day thanks to sell-on clauses, as Brooke Norton-Cuffy and Folorin Balogun prepare to complete their last-minute moves.
Norton-Cuffy, who left Arsenal for Serie A team Genoa in 2024 for about £1.7 million, is close to joining newly promoted Hull City in a deal worth €14 million (£11.9m). Because Arsenal included a 20% sell-on clause when they sold him to Genoa, they will get roughly £2.3 million from this transfer.
It’s been a busy summer for Arsenal with players leaving, and another big payment looks set to come in on Tuesday when former striker Balogun moves from Monaco to Everton for £38.5 million. Arsenal sold Balogun to Monaco last year for around £34 million and also included a 20% sell-on clause, meaning they will earn about £7.7 million if this deal goes through.
Several first-team players have left Arsenal recently, including Christian Norgaard, Jakub Kiwior, Leandro Trossard, and Reiss Nelson, who left by mutual agreement.
On the spending side, Mikel Arteta’s team has spent nearly £200 million this summer on new players like Bruno Guimaraes, Christos Tzolis, Piero Hincapie, and Ezri Konsa. Still, it looks like Arsenal will get some money back in the last hours of the transfer window.
On Tuesday, Arsenal confirmed that Fabio Vieira has moved to Bundesliga side Hamburg for £7.7 million. Also, Gabriel Martinelli is close to leaving. The 25-year-old, who has scored 62 goals in 278 appearances for Arsenal, is about to join Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal for around €65 million (£55.7m). If this happens, it would be a club-record sale for Arsenal, beating the £35 million they got from Liverpool for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in 2017.
Gabriel Jesus is expected to follow Martinelli out of the door. The Brazilian forward, who has struggled for game time in recent seasons, is close to signing a two-year deal with Barcelona for around £8.5 million plus add-ons. According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal “authorised” Jesus to travel on Monday. Jesus scored 32 goals and provided 22 assists in 123 games for Arsenal.
So, while Arsenal have been busy bringing in new players, they’re also set to make some good money by selling others before the transfer window closes.
