Man Utd and Liverpool get a last-minute boost as club is now ‘open to offers’ for important player
Manchester United and Liverpool are both on high alert as deadline day approaches, with reports suggesting they could make a move for a new midfielder.
Manchester United have already boosted their midfield this summer, signing Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santos, and Youri Tielemans for more than £150 million combined.
Liverpool, on the other hand, haven’t replaced Curtis Jones, who recently moved to Inter Milan for around £30 million. Because of this, new head coach Andoni Iraola has blocked any loans or sales of young midfielders James McConnell and Trey Nyoni. Both players were even on the bench in Liverpool’s recent 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest.
Now, there might be a chance to sign another player just before the transfer window closes. According to The Athletic, Real Madrid is open to offers for their French midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.
Camavinga has appeared over 200 times in five seasons at Real Madrid, but there has been talk about his future for some time. He didn’t start the first two La Liga games, but did play the full 90 minutes in Real’s 4-0 win over Malaga on Saturday.
Real’s manager, Jose Mourinho, said last week that while no new players are expected to join, some could leave if the right deal comes along. The Athletic also said Real hasn’t completely ruled out a last-minute exit for Camavinga, especially since several Premier League teams are looking to strengthen their midfield.
Spanish journalist Francisco Jose Delgado said on Cadena SER radio last week that Manchester United might make a €50 million (around £43 million) bid for Camavinga before the transfer deadline.
Meanwhile, The Telegraph’s Dominic King reported that Liverpool had decided not to sign a new midfielder after their opening weekend draw against Newcastle. However, midfield problems continued in their 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest, so it’s unclear if Liverpool might change their minds at the last minute, especially after turning down a bid for 19-year-old Nyoni on Monday.
Liverpool see Nyoni as an important part of their squad and don’t plan to sell him right now.
