Man United Make Quick Deadline Day Choice, Cancel Two Transfers in Just Minutes
Michael Carrick has been busy working to strengthen his Manchester United squad this summer as he gets ready for his first full season in charge and aims to win some trophies.
The Red Devils have already brought in some great players during this transfer window, spending big to sign Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, and Carlos Baleba.
As we got closer to Deadline Day, United were linked with a few other signings, but two deals have now fallen through.
One of the players United looked set to sign was Louis Page from Leicester City, who has been playing regular football since he was 17 and made his debut last season. But according to The Athletic, the deal to bring Page to United has collapsed.
Page, just 18, has made 25 senior appearances and the fee was expected to be around £10 million, but the move is now off. This news comes just as Page made his first start of the season for Leicester in League One against Plymouth Argyle.
Leicester’s manager Russell Martin had been holding back on giving Page too much game time until his future was clear, which explains why he played in this match.
Martin spoke highly of Page when asked about his future on Sky Sports, saying: “Louis is a really fantastic young player. I know the director of football at Manchester United well, but we haven’t talked about Louis because he probably knows I’d tell him to leave him alone! Until a deal happens that works for everyone, Louis stays here and he’s part of the squad. I’m really enjoying working with him.”
Another deal that didn’t go through was the loan exit of fullback Harry Amas. Journalist Nathan Salt reported that Amas will stay at United this summer.
The 19-year-old spent last season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, where he made 21 appearances and helped the team during a tough financial period. His good form earned him a loan move to Norwich City to continue his development in the Championship after United recalled him.
However, his time at Norwich didn’t go as planned since he only made one appearance. Now, Amas is expected to remain at Old Trafford and could be an option for Carrick at left back, especially if no new players are signed before the window closes.
