Deadpool vs Wolverine might become real as Hugh Jackman shares talks about investing in the Championship
Hollywood star Hugh Jackman is chatting about investing in Norwich City, a Championship football club. Hugh, one of the world’s biggest actors, has been a fan since he was a kid because his mom is from Norwich. He even used to watch their games when he was little.
The Wolverine actor is also good friends with Ryan Reynolds, who co-owns Wrexham. Now, Hugh has jokingly warned Ryan that they might become rivals in the Championship soon.
Back in 2010, Hugh was offered a chance to invest in Norwich but said no because he didn’t feel a strong connection to the club then. Things have changed now, partly thanks to his friendship with Ryan. Reynolds and his business partner Rob McElhenney have helped Wrexham climb up the leagues, and Hugh has even been to some of their games.
In an interview with talkSPORT, Hugh shared he’s very interested and actively talking about investing in Norwich. “You’re the first to know!” he said with a smile. “Good luck to Ryan, but I’m all about the Canaries.”
It’s not clear yet how much he might invest or what share he’d get. Right now, American businessman Mark Attanasio owns 85% of Norwich, while longtime supporters Delia Smith and Michael Wynn-Jones hold 10%. The rest is owned by fans and small investors.
Many celebrities have stakes in football clubs—Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in Wrexham, NFL star Tom Brady in Birmingham City, Snoop Dogg in Swansea, and singer Ed Sheeran in Ipswich Town, Norwich’s rivals.
Hugh also shared how he became a Norwich fan. Growing up in Australia with English parents, the only TV he could watch late at night was the FA Cup. After hearing about big teams like Arsenal, he asked his dad which team to support, but dad said London has many teams. So, he asked his mom where she was from. When she said Norwich, Hugh picked them as his team—and he’s stuck with them ever since!
