Man Utd announce player has left the club for good, just an hour after he appeared in the 2026-27 squad list on their website.
Manchester United have announced that their promising young forward Gabriele Biancheri is leaving the club.
Biancheri, who joined Manchester United from Cardiff City in February 2023 and scored regularly for their youth teams, has agreed to join Austrian second-division side FC Wacker Innsbruck on a permanent deal.
The 19-year-old is hoping to make his debut this Saturday when Innsbruck faces BW Linz in the Austrian Cup’s second round.
Interestingly, Biancheri was still listed as a Manchester United player on Thursday afternoon when the club revealed their Premier League squad for the 2026-27 season. But just a few hours later, it was confirmed he would be moving to Austria.
Manchester United’s official statement said: “Gabriele Biancheri, a forward from our academy, has agreed to join FC Wacker Innsbruck on a permanent deal, pending registration.” They added, “Everyone at Manchester United wishes Gabriele all the best as he takes this next step in his career.”
Biancheri was seen as a bright talent at Old Trafford. He finished the 2023-24 season with 17 goals in 27 games and was a regular scorer for the under-18s and under-21s in 2024-25, with 15 goals in 36 league matches.
Earlier this year, he spent six months on loan at Rotherham United, then in League One, making 11 appearances. He also played in a pre-season friendly for United against Altrincham. But with limited chances to break into the first team, he’s decided to take on a new challenge in Austria.
Last year, Biancheri was invited by Wales manager Craig Bellamy to a training camp ahead of World Cup qualifiers but later joined Canada’s training camp instead. Canada’s head coach Jesse Marsch compared him to their all-time top scorer, Jonathan David, praising his ability to both score and help build up plays. Marsch said, “He has several options and it’s important his family feels connected to the country he chooses.”
